Genoa

Heart of Liguria

Genoa is capital city of Liguria and divides the region into "Riviera di Ponente" (Ponente coast) to the west and "Riviera di Levante" (Levante coast) to the east. Genoa has one of the biggest historical centers of Europe, it was European Capital of Culture in 2004 and the "Palazzi dei Rolli" in Genoa became UNESCO-World Heritage Site in 2006.

"La Superba”, or as Genoa is called by the Italians “The proud one”, attracts tourists and visitors with its abundance of artistic and cultural assets. We suggest you to visit the house where Christopher Columbus was born, the medieval Palazzo DucaleCathedral San Lorenzo with its impressive stripy front. Or choose some of the many museums in Genoa, like Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Rosso where you can see precious collections of paintings from European painters of the 15th to17th century.

You should also take a walk to the old harbor "Porto Antico" and maybe you go up with the "Bigo" to have a great view over the whole city. Close to the harbor the Acquario di Genova is located. It is the second largest aquarium in Europe.
